Our Injury Specialists for Sports
We have a team of 6 personal trainers all across Melbourne. They have years of experience helping our clients improve their sports performance. Whether can’t play because of injuries, or they want to improve their technique to prevent injuries, we can help.
Recovery From Injuries
50% of clients will come to us with a pre-existing injury. This means they’re at risk of injuring themselves if they were to attend group fitness classes. Our personal training sessions are designed to help clients improve their current condition. Whether that’s a knee injury, ankle, shoulder, back, lower back, or postural distortion.
Many injuries arise from improper technique of exercise. And at this stage, it’s only a matter of time and when they get injured. By continuing to use the wrong technique, for example a rounded back or misaligned spine when training at the gym, they are building repetition and muscle memory around the incorrect technique. This causes the wrong muscles to be strengthened, and none of the support muscles to be engaged. Then our client would need to go back, lower the weight, learn the right technique, and start from scratch. If they were to continue using this incorrect technique, it would result in injuries like:
- Rotator cuff tears
- Lumbar disc herniation
- Pectoralis major tear
- Achilies tendonitis
- IT band syndrome
- Exercise induced rhabdomyolysis
- Compartment syndrome (exercise induced)
- Bilateral hyphema
- Stress fractures
- And more
Most of these injuries can be resolved through a 3 step process:
- Remove exercises or things that aggravate the injury more
- Use self myofascia release with a lacross ball to massage tight muscles
- Strengthen opposing muscles to the injury with targeted strength training. Using very good technique.
Good technique refers to doing exercises with a straight spine. A straight spine can be identified in a mirror or from a personal trainer. It’s hard or near impossible to see the alignment of your own spine, and that’s why a our personal trainers can help you form the right technique from the start.
Another issue is that doing any exercise or movement trains muscle memory. So if you were to do rehab or strengthening exercises incorrect, you would be training yourself to do it the wrong way, without a straight spine. And with zero to little core activation. This provides no support to your spine, and doesn’t help resolve the injury to begin with. And it doesn’t set you up for doing well with every day movements and sports.
Rehabilitation with a Physiotherapist
Rehab is an important part of fixing injuries. But it’s not the only solution. Many clients see a physiotherapist, but don’t know what to do next. Because a physiotherapist will only prescribe light exercises, that don’t progress client towards their end goal.
There is a gap in the industry where clients of physiotherapists are left on their own. Te client went to physio to fix an injury so they could play sport again. But who is there to help them gain more strength and fitness, and actually excel at sport again?
That’s where a specialist personal training who has experience with injuries comes in. They can do physiotherapist exercise with their clients. Or they can take physiotherapist clients from just finishing rehab, to doing very well at sports.
